“INTIMATE, INTELLIGENT, INTOXICATING” is how Ireland’s No.1 music mag Hotpress described
Dubliner David Hopkins’ debut single, Amber and Green, when awarding it ‘Single of the Issue’.
Taken from the album of the same name Amber and Green , relaunched David to the Irish
music scene after a break of ten years. From the tender age of fourteen. David was keyboard
player, founder member, and main songwriter with Dublin prog-rockers LIR in the ’90s. Lir were a
band noted for their great live shows, and though hotly tipped for international success David
increasingly found writing and playing with the band creatively frustrating, and so while on tour in
the States he decided to stay behind when the rest of the band returned to Ireland. Settling in San
Francisco he continued to do session work as a keyboard player with a number of bands,
undertaking several nationwide tours, including opening for The Who on their Quadrophenia tour.
But disillusioned with session work in the late ‘90s. David turned his back on the music scene for a
while, only emerging to perform his own music in the last couple of years. David independently
released his first solo album Here Comes The Bright Light in the States winning him loads of fans
and at a gig in San Francisco, David was spotted by the team behind The Killers who were quick to
recognise his talent, and promptly signed him to a management deal. Having assembled a superb
band in California David continued to record new songs which have now been compiled into his
stunning new album Amber and Green. Released in Ireland by indie label Reekus in August 2005
the album garnered superlative reviews in all sectors of the media, while being made album of the
week on the Larry Gogan show on the national broadcasting station RTE2FM David has set about
establishing himself in New York by securing a residency in The Red Lion Bar on Bleeker St and by
playing the college music festival CMJ in New York in September and The Nemo festival in Boston
in the same month. David is continuing to return to his native Dublin Ireland to play various gigs
around the country and also to record more new songs - a classic christmas single in the offing?
